ITE INTERNATIONAL BOARD APPROVES "NEXT GENERATION FUNDING" RECOMMENDATION

ITE's International Board of Direction has approved "Developing the Next Generation of Funding Sources," a policy recommendation developed by ITE's Policy and Legislative Committee. The policy expounds on a point included in ITE's reauthorization proposal, Providing a Safe Reliable and Secure Transportation System: 2004 and Beyond, which states support for "providing adequate and predictable funding programs."

The policy recommends the initiation of a study to review the funding mechanism for the highway trust fund. It specifically recommends three focus areas: investigating alternatives to traditional motor fuel taxes; investigating funding mechanisms that include demand efficiency incentives; and investigating the potential for beneficial relationships between funding alternatives and "infostructure" development.
