Talking it out: binder-sponsored seminar aims to spur business in a sluggish economy, thwarting the current recession - Midland Communications Packaging

With a vision toward the future and the tenacity to improve a dismal business climate, John Clark, president of Midland Communications Packaging, Inc. (Louisville, KY), decided it was time to shake the lethargy out of the industry and stir up some business.

Armed with an idea to create a positive, motivating alternative to the "wait-and-see" approach adopted by so many companies today, Clark rolled up his sleeves and got to work. He invited his customers, prospects and suppliers to a Midland-sponsored seminar called "Partners in Innovation."

The seminar, seen as an industry first by many in the looseleaf industry, provided an educational arena in which customers and potential customers could brainstorm, network and learn about the latest products, materials and trends.

"Partners in Innovation," says Clark, "represented a chance to sit down, exchange ideas and discuss ways in which we could change, benefit or improve the way we pursue business, and ultimately create new opportunities for all of us. We wanted to light a fire under the economy and get businesspeople moving again by eliminating miscommunication and getting customers, designers, advertising agencies and manufacturers in the same room."

The day-long event was held at a local Louisville hotel and attended by representatives from more than 50 companies throughout the Midwest.
