Does managing your checking account give you a migraine each month? Here's how to do a better job:

* Keep track of withdrawals. When you use your debit card or visit the ATM, put your receipts in your check register or in an envelope, then update your checkbook every few days.

* Watch those ATM fees. Reduce the number of trips to the cash machine by taking out enough money to cover your weekly expenses. Avoid additional charges by using only your bank's machine, and beware of fees for account inquiries or for balances that dip below a certain amount.

* Hookup. By linking your checking with your savings account, your bank can automatically transfer funds to prevent a check from bouncing.
